When It Comes To Weight, Caloric Intake Control
Is The Primary Strategy - Position Statement
The First Law Of Thermodynamics, which holds everywhere in the known universe, clearly states that weight loss occurs whenever energy output exceeds energy intake.
This is true regardless of
the diet’s macronutrient mixture, i.e., no matter what one eats, as long as
the Calories in are less than the Calories out, one MUST lose weight.
There is no choice.
To believe otherwise is insane.
A diet can never fail so long as a person consumes fewer Calories than they burn.
This can NEVER fail, i.e., it MUST work 100% of the time.
“Exercise” is a terribly
inefficient way to lose weight. Per unit time, there is no comparison.
For example, substituting a
sugar-free soda for a sugared one takes no time and results in ~150 Calories
saved. Traveling on foot 1.5 miles yields a similar average effective Calorie
saving, but may take one or more hours when pre- and post-exercise activities
(e.g., changing clothes, showering) are considered.
People are busy. Too busy to exercise.
Also, the weight loss effects
of exercise are easily undone.
One gram of average food contains 5.65 Calories.
Ignoring the small amount of energy used in converting
excess food into body fat, overeating merely 1 ounce of average food, will
completely replace all the Calories burned exercising by traveling 1.5 miles by
foot, and more.
Exercise or not,
caloric intake control reigns supreme.
Fragile,
time-consuming exercise for simple weight loss, without caloric intake control,
is doomed to fail.
The better approach is to
revise diet advice to make weight loss by caloric intake control the primary
approach.
When It Comes To Weight, Caloric Intake Control Is The Primary Strategy - Advocacy Letter
An article “proving” that
diets don’t work (http://mann.bol.ucla.edu/files/Diets_don't_work.pdf)
was confirmed by a diet guru and diet book author (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18260925/).
This is insane, despite the
claims of some diet experts.
“Weight loss occurs whenever energy output exceeds energy intake regardless of the diet’s macronutrient mixture, reaffirming the first law of thermodynamics.” (McArdle WD, Katch FI, Katch VL: Exercise Physiology: Energy, Nutrition and Human Performance (5th Ed.). Baltimore: Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins (2001):840)
No matter what one eats, as

There is no choice.
Diets fail because of bad diet advice. Diets fail because of human error, weakness or lack of resolve.
But a diet can never fail so long as a person consumes fewer Calories than they burn.
The key to succeeding at any diet, is the ability to sustain eating fewer Calories than one burns for a period of time long enough to lose the desired amount of weight.
This can NEVER fail, i.e., it MUST work 100% of the time.

I expect the following from you:
A clear and immediate public declaration that a Calorie restricting diet MUST work when fewer Calories are consumed than are burned
A clear and immediate public declaration that a Calorie restricting diet is the most efficient means to lose weight
A clear and immediate public declaration suggesting that all overweight and obese persons undertake a Calorie restricting diet where fewer Calories are consumed than are burned
A clear and immediate public declaration that exercise may be considered as an adjunct to caloric intake control for weight loss
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
