Overweight And Obesity Are Not Medical Issues - Position Statement

The sole cause of overweight and obesity is known with absolute certainty - more Calories are consumed than are burned.

The sole way to reduce weight is known with absolute certainty - fewer Calories are consumed than are burned.

Weight gain and weight loss are governed by the First Law of Thermodynamics.

In the known universe, there is nothing that can contravene the First Law of Thermodynamics.

No tool of medicine can result in weight loss unless fewer Calories are consumed than are burned.

No medical intervention can result in weight loss unless fewer Calories are consumed than are burned.

Any medical intervention for weight loss will fail when more Calories are consumed than are burned.

With 100% certainty, 100% of the time, the First Law of Thermodynamics will prevail over any medical intervention.

It is clear that medical intervention is not the way to reduce weight.

Only consuming fewer Calories than are burned will reduce weight.

Medical interventions have complications.

Current medical interventions for overweight and obesity i.e., drugs and surgery, have complications.

It is certain that any future medical interventions crafted to deal with overweight and obesity will have complications.

This is especially true as the sick care establishment explores new and experimental ways to control our hormones and genetics.

After all, these are the same people who cannot cure toenail fungus.

Since:

there is no way to lose weight except by consuming fewer Calories than are burned and

no medical intervention can alter this fact and

any medical intervention will fail unless fewer Calories are consumed than are burned and

all medical interventions have complications

applying the tools of medicine to weight loss is not appropriate.

NAAAFP stands in opposition to public funding for medical intervention, including surgery, as a means to weight loss.

Overweight And Obesity Are Not Medical Issues - Advocacy Letter

Dear (insert name of recipient here),

With 100% certainty, weight gain is caused by consuming more Calories than are burned.

With 100% certainty, weight loss is accomplished by consuming fewer Calories than are burned.

With 100% certainty, weight gain and weight loss are governed by the First Law of Thermodynamics.

Nothing can ever change this. It is a physical impossibility.

No medical intervention can ever change this. The tools of medicine are not appropriate to these conditions.

Further all medical interventions can and do result in complications. To wit,  the current medical and surgical approaches to overweight and obesity are associated with complications.

Complications are associated with costs.

Complications are even more likely as the sick care establishment explores new and experimental ways to control our hormones and genetics.

After all, these are the same people who cannot cure toenail fungus.

Since no medical intervention, including surgery, can ever overcome the Law of Thermodynamics, I am in opposition to the expenditure of public funds in pursuit of a medical approach to weight loss.

I expect the following from you:

A clear and immediate public declaration that overweight and obesity are not medical issues

Action without delay that results in a cessation of public spending for any and all medical and surgical efforts directed at weight loss

Action without delay that results in a cessation of public spending for any and all funding for medical and surgical research directed at weight loss

Thank you for your attention to this important  matter.
