Diets MUST Work - Position Statement

The First Law Of Thermodynamics, which holds everywhere in the known universe, clearly states that weight loss occurs whenever energy output exceeds energy intake.

This is true regardless of the diet’s macronutrient mixture, i.e., no matter what one eats, as long as the Calories in are less than the Calories out, one MUST lose weight.

There is no choice.

To believe otherwise is insane, despite the claims of some diet experts.

Diets fail because of bad diet advice. Diets fail because of human error, weakness or lack of resolve.

But a diet can never fail so long as a person consumes fewer Calories than they burn.

The key to succeeding at any diet, is the ability to sustain eating fewer Calories than one burns for a period of time long enough to lose the desired amount of weight.

This can NEVER fail.

NAAAFP stands in opposition to any diet that is unsustainable and acknowledges that all sustainable diets MUST work to achieve weight loss.

Diets MUST Work - Advocacy Letter

Dear (insert name of recipient here),

An article “proving” that diets don’t work (http://mann.bol.ucla.edu/files/Diets_don't_work.pdf) was confirmed by a diet guru and diet book author (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18260925/).

This is insane, despite the claims of some diet experts.

“Weight loss occurs whenever energy output exceeds energy intake regardless of the diet’s macronutrient mixture, reaffirming the first law of thermodynamics.” (McArdle WD, Katch FI, Katch VL: Exercise Physiology: Energy, Nutrition and Human Performance (5th Ed.). Baltimore: Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins (2001):840)

I expect the following from you:

A clear and immediate public declaration that a Calorie restricting diet MUST work so long as fewer Calories are consumed than are burned

A clear and immediate public declaration that a Calorie restricting diet where fewer Calories are consumed than are burned is the most efficient means to lose weight

A clear and immediate public declaration suggesting that all overweight and obese persons undertake a Calorie restricting diet where fewer Calories are consumed than are burned

Action without delay that results in a thorough evaluation of expert diet advice, its providers, publishers and media promoters to determine if:

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
